They’re Finally Here!
We have the best tulips we’ve ever had at the farm this Spring – after 21 years we finally figured out how to grow them! Rather than digging a trench and covering with our heavy clay soil, we dropped 500 bulbs into an empty raised bed, then covered the bulbs with 8″ of good Hoffman’s Compost. When the tulips show color we pull them bulb and all (for the best stem length) and are storing some wet and some dry in our 3 extra refrigerators. They like to be colder than our cooler allows. Our first tulips brightened up this past week in our CSA and they’ll continue through 2 more CSAs and our Floral Design Workshop. Hurray!

Spring Centerpiece Workshop
First Floral Workshop of the Season
April 17th is MY BIRTHDAY! and I decided what better way to celebrate than to host flower friends for our first of the season Design Workshop! There will be dogwood, lilacs, lenten roses, tulips, bridal veil spirea, viburnum, anemone, maybe a peony or snapdragon and whatever Spring hands us. After a quick tour, we’ll demo then create an overflowing Spring centerpiece and then end the day with birthday cake (from Blackbird Bakery). We’ll even join in and decorate the cake with flowers, fern, and foliage. We’d love to have you join us from 10 am-12:30 pm and create something beautiful that will brighten up your holiday weekend!

What is a CSA?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture.
You may be familiar with vegetable CSAs . . . well, flower CSAs work the same way. Flower shares provide a unique opportunity to receive beautiful, locally grown and arranged flowers, bringing a bit of our farm into your home or office each week. Changing from wild, light spring bouquets to bright fuller summer bouquets, your hand-tied bouquet will reflect the changing flowers of each season.
Our CSA allows for the continued sustainable maintenance of a farm that has been in the family for over 200 years. We hope you choose to take part in our growing CSA operation and gift a share to yourself or someone you love, thereby supporting the continued mission of our farm.
Our Next CSA
Our Spring CSA provides weekly bouquets from April 29-June 3rd so your house can look just like mine 🙂 I love spring and I love the flowers she brings along with her. Spring flowers seem to be the most fragrant and last a bit longer in the vase. And such wonderful flowers . . . peonies, campanula, snapdragons, sweet peas, ranunculus, anemone, spirea, viburnum, and hopefully the first of the sunflowers make such lovely bouquets, perfect for your dining table or office!

And finally, thank you for supporting our small farm in so many lovely ways. We’re looking forward to the many ways our paths might cross this season! Meanwhile, it’s getting very busy here and that’s the way we like it. We’re seeding more trays of warm season annuals next week because summer will be here before we have time to catch our breath!
Have a lovely weekend and take time to notice the nature around you.
