Cell Phone Photography Workshop – Postponed Date TBD
$150.00
Do your phone photos leave you feeling flat! We’ve got just the workshop for you!
Anna Hedges, a long time friend of the farm, will be taking the lead in this hands on workshop and we’re so excited! Anna is a professional photographer born and raised in East Tennessee who does wedding, family, and commericial photography. We believe what separates Anna from others is her ability to see things through a different lens, from a different angle, and at her own pace. Anna is well versed in DSLR photography but also appreciates the value of using that close-at-hand cell phone and states, “While the equipment you have is important, more important is how you see the world around you and the best camera to capture that is the one you have nearby.”
Anna believes good photography involves slowing down and paying attention so that photos tell the story we want them to tell. In photography we need to give ourselves permission to play and we think a run down flower farm is the perfect place to do just that. While I might be setting up a scene to capture a bridal bouquet, Anna is shooting a single dahlia that has fallen on the chicken coop floor in just the perfect light. We should trust ourselves more to first create and play, and then analyze later. It can be intimidating to not know exactly what to do but it is far better to pause and be in communion with what is passing in front of us. If we know what we want to convey, the principles of art and design can help convey that better.
As soon as folks arrive all will a grab few dahlias to play with and photograph. Then we’ll get acquainted a little bit more with each other and with the technical aspects of our cell phones (no experience necessary). We will introduce the principles of art and design that apply across all mediums and help us see the world in a new light and we’ll share examples and a handout and we may run up to our house to share some examples on the silver screen 🙂
Then the fun part as we wander the farm and apply what we’ve learned using just the phone in our pocket, the flowers we’ve gathered, and the sweet little spots on the farm itself. There will be three of us to wander with you and help when needed. And finally we’ll gather again to talk hopefully about how just one afternoon has broadened our ability to better capture all the beauty around us.
Registration is not refundable and we will meet rain or shine. Plenty of fun spots in the Homeplace and the Log Barn if weather turns against us. See below for more details.
